Well they do!

There is also a Detector that triggers on the different colors.

And though you can’t tell from the pic, that Locomotive is whistling. Yep, it has a whistle.

Yes, that’s correct. If you’ve been following my twitter, you’ve probably seen me posting occasional status updates on the progress of the 1.5 port of Railcraft. Well today I thought I take a moment and show you something a little more tangible.

progess151

For the record, this picture was taken with only Railcraft installed. ;)

Also I’d like to apologize for the lack of video updates, but as you can seen I’ve been somewhat preoccupied.

I’m just going to leave this here. ;)

Version 7.1.0.0 – The Brick Update!

Its that time again! Today we have a new release with a bunch of new content, primarily of an aesthetic nature.

bricks_screenshot

There is also some new world gen: Abyssal Geodes beneath the Oceans, and Stone Quarries in Forests. You can even see a Quarry in the picture above. For those wondering, the new world gen is only needed if you want to use Abyssal or Quarried Bricks in your building projects.

And yes, this works with either 1.5.1 or 1.5.2.

And once again it appears the changelog is a mile long, but hey that’s a good thing right?

Version 7.2.0.0 – The Routing Update

$
0
0

Its finally here, over a year in planning, the ability to intelligently route Trains has arrived. It even incorporates a Ticket system so you can charge for rides.

To demonstrate it, I’ve put together a short video since I don’t have time to write a proper guide (more on that later).

So as I said, I’m short on time at the moment, I’m not going to have time nor access to work-on/support Railcraft for the next couple weeks. And admittedly, some of this update was a little rushed as I wanted to finish before I left. This mostly only affects the Routing Track and Routing Switch Motor though, as I just spent an all-nighter finishing them up. ;)

Anyway, enjoy. If you have any questions I’m sure the guys in #railcraft can help you. I’ll see you all in a week and half or so, and maybe then I can start my SSP series in force.

  • NEW: Added Routing Track, sets the Destination of a Locomotive.
  • NEW: Added Routing Detector, uses a Routing Table to match passing Locomotives.

New version up, with new features and many improvements!

The primary new feature is the Emblem system. Emblems are crafted at the Engraving Machine and can then be combined with Locomotives or Metal Posts via crafting to attach the Emblem. The can also be placed in Item Frames and hung on the wall. Emblems are collectable and can be unlocked from the Engraving Machine with “Unlock” codes. New Emblem designs will be released periodically, keep an eye out for them! The best part is that new Emblems can be released without requiring a mod update!

Also of interest may be the new Firestone, the perfect heat source. Look for the ore in the Nether.

Version 8.3.0.0 – Stone Lamps

$

Time for a new version of Railcraft!

This version has some changes that will HAVE to have if you want to upgrade your world to MC 1.7 at some point. If you don’t install this version or any following versions for 1.6.4 before upgrading to MC 1.7, you will lose a number of items during the upgrade. That said, there are no plans for a MC 1.7 version any time in the near future and won’t be until after Forge has been updated.

Version 8.4.0.0 – Last 1.6.4 Version (Maybe)

$
0
0

Here we are. Yes, its been a while, but its now time to post a another version of Railcraft!

Mostly just a minor maintenance update that uses the new Thaumcraft API, but it also includes the new Post Platforms. Platforms are essentially Posts that always have the track platform on top. It’s mostly just an aesthetic thing that was requested.

This will most likely be the last version of Railcraft for 1.6.4. I had originally intended to attempt to maintain two separate code bases for 1.6 and 1.7, but I am no longer sure there is a good enough reason (or motivation) to pursue that endeavor. So I’m going to focus my efforts on 1.7 for the moment.

Download Here

Additionally, I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to my new Patreon Page. There is some cool stuff over there (Electric Locomotives, Custom Emblems, etc….) so be sure to take a look!

Change Log:

  • INFO: Updated Thaumcraft API to 4.1.0.
  • INFO: Final Update for 1.6.4.
  • NEW: Added Platforms, a varient of Posts.
  • CONFIG: Added multipler for Bore Mining Speed.
  • FIX: Added some checks to prevent the Thaumcraft Plugin from crashing if you disable some of Railcraft's items/blocks.
  • FIX: Train Dispenser was broken in 8.3.0.0, fixed now.
  • FIX: Using the Loader Gate Action "Pause" should be less unstable.
  • FIX: Fix possible loop in Tile Entity repair code.

flattr this!

Version 9.0.0.0 – First Official 1.7.2 Version!

$
0
0

After much hair pulling, angst, and sleepless nights, Railcraft is once again moving forward!

There are a couple new features, but nothing major. The biggest being the addition of the Trading Station for trading with Villagers.

From this point, work will being in earnest on the Electric Locomotive that was unlocked via Patreon support. This is going to be a pretty major system with a decent amount of content: new Locomotive, new Tracks, a new OreGen system for Copper/Tin and other Metals (its going to be unlike anything I’ve seen in any other MC mod, a real reason to actually use minecarts for mining), and more.

Download Here

Additionally, I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to my new Patreon Page. There is some cool stuff over there (Beta Access, Custom Emblems, etc….) so be sure to take a look!

Change Log:

  • INFO: Updated to MC 1.7.2.
  • KNOWN ISSUES: Vanilla minecarts are not being replaced until the chunk reloads, Bore may not mine, some blocks harvest weirdly, and Gated Tracks don't connect to fences.
  • NEW: Added Trade Station. A block that can trade with Villagers.
  • NEW: If the Bore stops for any reason, it will now activate any attached Locomotives (must be in Run mode to work).
  • NEW: Using a Magnifying Glass on a structure will give you some information about why it won't form. Not sure how useful it is.
  • CHANGE: Lockdown, Holding, and Boarding Tracks merged into a single Locking Track. Change modes with a Crowbar. Legacy tracks should update automatically.
  • CHANGE: Master block of all MultiBlocks moved to the center of the structure if possible to make it possible to rotate them intact, may result in loss of items in the structure.
  • CONFIG: Anchor Fuel options expanded to support multiple items.
  • API: Added framework for creating alternative Locomotive skins.
  • API: Reduced the importance of TrackIds, they are now only used for legacy support and network sync. TrackTags strings are used for everything else, including serialization.

Version 9.1.0.0 – Ore Seams!

$
0
0

Its that time again! Update time!

This version brings a new feature which is Stage 1 of the Electric Locomotive Project. That being Tin and Copper World Gen which will be used in the crafting of Electric Tracks and Locomotives. This Ore Gen is unique in that it spawns “seams” of low quality Ores, giving you a reason to establish a semi-permanent mine in the regions in which they spawn (complete with railways!). Poor Ores refine into Nuggets rather than Ingots. Enjoy!

I am currently working in earnest on the Electric Locomotive that was unlocked via Patreon support. This is going to be a pretty major system with a decent amount of content: new Locomotive, new Tracks, a new OreGen system for Copper/Tin and other Metals (done!), and more.

Please forgive the confusing mess that is CurseForge. They seems to have removed the ability for me link to the download page for a specific file and instead redirect you to a list files to download.

Download Here

Additionally, I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to my Patreon Page. There is some cool stuff over there (Beta Access, Custom Emblems, etc….) so be sure to take a look!

Change Log:

  • NEW: Poor Ore Seams. Seams of Poor Ore for Iron, Gold, Tin, and Copper will now spawn in the world. Cook the Ore to get Nuggets.
  • NEW: Added Railcraft Villager and Structure to Villages. (credits to AEnterprise for the initial code)
  • FIX: Refuse to extract zero stack items from inventories, fixes pulling infinite items from Barrels.
  • FIX: Close file resources after loading textures because apparently MC doesn't do it for us.
  • FIX: Removed config options pertaining to IC2 Refined Iron, since it no longer exists and they were crashing with newer Forge versions.
  • FIX: Call markDirty() on inventories.
  • FIX: Snow Slabs are crafted with Snow Layers, not Blocks. Fixes recipe conflict.
  • FIX: Apply mad hacks to make pathfinding stop trying to jump over my Walls.
  • FIX: Various bug fixes mostly related to left over 1.7 issues.
  • FIX: Converted Tank Cart Filter recipes to a Custom Recipe, fixes issues with incorrect items being mapped.
  • FIX: Fix minecart deconstruction recipes, they should now return the cart contents correctly.

Patreon Milestone Reached!

$

0

Thanks for all the support everyone! We’ve reached the $400 milestone on Patreon, which unlocks a new license for Railcraft, ditching the requirement for explicit permission for public mod packs! My sanity thanks you all!

The new license can be read at http://railcraft.info/wiki/info:license

However, please be aware that you must still meet all the other requirements for a Public Mod Pack, specifically the requirement for a Public Licensing Page!

And if you haven’t, be sure to check out my Patreon page for rewards (Beta Access including MC 1.7.10, Custom Emblems, etc….) and other milestones if you haven’t already!

Additionally, I suppose I should post a progress report on the first two milestones. Which frankly we hit way faster than I expected when I originally drew them up!

The Electric Locomotive has shown great progress. We have a locomotive model, textures (mostly), most of the locomotive code, track code, and track textures. Unfortunately, real life and the update for Minecraft 1.7.10 has worked to sidetrack me away from the Locomotive. However, now that most of the hard work for 1.7.10 is done, I should be able to get back to the Locomotive shortly. As for the second Milestone, that will have to wait until I finish the Locomotive. I haven’t even started it yet, sorry!

And on the topic of the 1.7.10 update, Beta Testers currently have it (remember that’s a Patreon reward). However, it currently has a major localization issue with the latest versions of Forge. None of the language files are being read. I still need to track that down, and see whether its going to require me to switch completely to the Minecraft’s built in localization library. If that happens, it will unfortunately invalidate all the existing language files that people have put so much work into. We’ll see. I don’t suppose that anyone can point me at a advanced text replacement tool that can read and perform a large number of regex text replacement expressions from a rule file and supports unicode utf-8 source files? Notepad++ won’t cut it for something of this scale. Anyway, once that issue is solved, it’ll be ready for a public release.

Once again, thanks for the support!

Version 9.3.0.0 – Electric Locomotives!

Drum-roll please!

Electric Locomotives are here! I repeat, Electric Locomotives are here! Months in the making, there entire system is finally in place. We have Electric Tracks to power the Locomotive. We have Electric Shunting Wire to connect bits together. The Ic2 Energy carts got a overhaul and can now power Electric Locomotives, but at the cost of speed. We have copper, tin and lead to expand the ability to make new interesting recipes and a new chest to help manage Metals. We have new, flexible, and powerful APIs if anyone wants to add their own Electricity powered Minecarts. The whole package deal. Anyway, enjoy!

Next on my todo list, I will be putting the majority of Railcraft’s source up on GitHub for people to look at, submit PRs and learn from. I have some work to do to get that setup, but I can start immediately now that I have no outstanding development branches. Expect to start seeing changes over at my GitHub Page. I’ll be following a similar Visible Source model to Forestry’s original setup (before it went fully Open Source). More details will come later!

Additionally, I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to my Patreon Page. There is some cool stuff over there (Beta Access, Custom Emblems, etc….) so be sure to take a look! The effort and attention to detail put into the Electric Locomotive Update was a direct reflection of the support from all my wonderful Patreons. If you’d like to continue to see even greater things, be sure to pass some support along!

Change Log:

  • NEW: Added Electric Locomotive, powered by Electric Tracks or Ic2 Energy Carts.
  • NEW: Added Electric Tracks, they power Electric Locomotives and cause damage to living entities when powered. The Engineer's Overalls will protect you from damage.
  • NEW: Added Electric Shunting Wire, made from Copper, Paper, and Lead in a Rolling Machine. Use it to connect Electric Tracks across gaps and non-electrified tracks in the line. Place under the track.
  • NEW: Added Wire Support Frames. Required in order to place Track on Shunting Wire. Place wire, then click with Frame in hand (other way around works too).
  • NEW: Locomotives will have their name and destination displayed above them. There will probably be some way to hide/disable this in the future.
  • NEW: Added Copper/Tin Blocks.
  • NEW: Added Lead and associated Poor Ore, Nuggets, Ingots, and Blocks.
  • NEW: Added Metals Chest, a chest that condenses any metal nuggets or ingots inserted into it blocks. Good for dealing with multiple OreDictionary variants of metals.
  • CHANGE: Ic2 Energy Carts can be used to power the Electric Locomotive. To offset this, theses carts now have a lower speed than normal carts. This can be countered by adding multiple Locomotives.
  • CHANGE: Gear recipes modified to be less dependant on Buildcraft. Now requires a Tin Bushing as the core instead of Stone Gears.
  • CHANGE: Steam Turbine moved from Ic2 Module to Electric Module. No longer requires Ic2.
  • FIX: Fixed NBT errors with Routing Table, it should be usable now. Sorry!
  • FIX: Fixed tooltip localizations on many items and fixed many other localization issues elsewhere.
  • FIX: Fixed texture shearing on Posts/Platforms.
  • FIX: Fixed issues with Engineer's Overalls not breaking when preventing damage.
  • FIX: Fixed version check localization and redirected away from my ailing Dropbox.
  • FIX: CraftGuide API files are no longer included in the Jar. This is somewhat experimental but no issues with CraftGuide integration reported so far.
  • API: Added IElectricMinecart to allow carts to transfer power throughout the train.

Version 9.4.0.0 – The RF Update (And Laser Rails!)

Its been a grueling few days getting this ready. This is one of the biggest updates that Railcraft has had in a long time. I’ll have a video up probably some time to tomorrow about the new features.

Posting the code to GitHub has been a great success, though repository management still gives me nightmares I admit. We’ve gotten great contributions from several people, including Yopu, WoodStone, adudney, wooky, genymedes01, and others. Many thanks to all my contributors, and to all the Patrons that made it possible!

Now, flowery thank you’s aside. Lets dig into the gritty details of the update. The big ticket item, that was single-handedly responsible for delaying the release by at least a week, is the Force Track Emitter. Its been on my todo list since nearly day one before becoming a Patreon Milestone, the illusive Laser Rails are finally here! Powered by Railcraft Charge, the Force Track Emitter will extend a line of ghostly tracks across any gap, for a price of course. It can be controlled by Redstone and if you place a Locking Track on top of the Emitter, it will stop any carts from passing unless the Force Tracks are fully extended. Have fun!

railcraft_9.4

Sci-Fi tech is all well and good, but what I imagine many of you have been waiting for is the Redstone Flux conversion. Yes, Railcraft is now compatible with Redstone Flux, joining Forestry and Buildcraft’s recent conversions. Additionally, the Flux Transformer has been added to convert Redstone Flux into Railcraft Charge. Its a 2x2x2 multi-block structure made of Redstone, Copper, and Gold. Attach Redstone Flux inputs and Railcraft Charge outputs to any block and it will happily convert away.

Additionally, from Yopu we have the Track Layer and Track Remover. A couple of carts that have been long requested by many people. Their names should be fairly self explanatory.

And even more!

The Crowbar has, thanks to WoodStone, received three new Enchantments: Wrecking (bonus damage), Implosion (anti-Creeper bonus damage), and Destruction (wide area deconstruction of blocks).

A Signal Box designed to interface with varying levels of Redstone Power has been added by wooky. Though the Analog Controller Box may or may not work properly, I wasn’t able to figure it out in the brief look I took at it. But I’ll make sure its working 100% by 9.5 if there are any issues.

Yopu has also added a couple of Creative only blocks for producing infinite amounts of Steam and Charge. Controlled by Redstone, they definitely make testing easier.

There are finally a number of new cosmetic options added, focusing around the newly added Metals. These include Stairs, Slabs, and Lanterns.

And of course, the usual slew of bug-fixes.

Lastly, I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to my Patreon Page. There is some cool stuff over there (Beta Access, Custom Emblems, etc….) so be sure to take a look! The fact that you can now see and contribute to Railcraft’s code is a direct result of Patreon. If you’d like to continue to see even greater things, be sure to pass some support along!

Version 9.5.0.0 – The Miscellaneous Update

Now that the holidays and football are out of the way, its time to buckle down and make some progress on Railcraft! We have here release 9.5, a hard to categorize beast. It has some cool new features, but they are mostly just refinements of existing gameplay. Once again we have many contributions from the community: Yopu, ssotangkur, wooky, and more.

To summarize the update, from me we have a bunch of Routing Logic improvements. Wooky rewrote the Analog Controller Box to be more flexible by allowing you input specific Redstone values and ranges. Ssotangkur rewrote the Locking Track logic to be even more robust and reliable, he is working on the Switch Tracks as well but wasn’t able to work all the kinks out in time for 9.5. Iron/Steel Tank Valves now interact with Comparators thanks to daniel and Yopu. And Yopu added a Void Metal Crowbar for Thaumcraft. Add to all that a slew of bug-fixes (even if I don’t have time to work on features, no bug is safe from my bug swatter) and we have another great update! Enjoy!

One last thing, I finally (after much nashing of teeth) have a new microphone. This update doesn’t have much worthy of a video, but I still owe you guys a 9.4 update video. So expect that in the next couple weeks! Additionally, I’ve added a new Patreon milestone goal. If you guys can reach $800, I’ll resurrect the Dark Tower youtube series! Just throwing that out there. Cheers!

MineCon 2015 Plans & Patreon Goals

Hey all! Got my MineCon tickets today. So if you plan to be there, keep an eye out for me. Look for the FTB/Forgecraft people, I’ll probably be hanging out with them. I hope to get a shirt with my name on it this year so everyone can see who I am.

But anyway, I wanted to take a moment and let you in on a nice opportunity to show your support with a new feature for Railcraft. Because of the expense for airfare to London ($1,500!), I thought I’d run a little funds drive. So I’ve taken a feature that has been long on my “would be nice, but will probably never happen” list and made it the reward if you guys can boost my Patreon to $600 before MineCon. This feature wasn’t even on my roadmap (current roadmap: ChemLab/Diesel, RF Bat Cart, Thaumcraft Loco, Pantographs), but I think you guys will really like it. I’m keeping the exact feature a surprise for moment, but I’ll be giving out hints over the next few months. Hint #1: It will change the way you play Railcraft and design your railways completely. Keep an eye on my twitter for more hints in the coming weeks.

Again, that is a $600 Patreon Goal. Its really not that much, we are already around $500. Head over to Patreon and take a look!

Also I should be posting a new Railcraft version soon, mostly a housecleaning update with some improvements and bugfixes that are long overdue.

Railcraft 9.6.0.0 – The Improvements Update

$

Here is what you’ve all been waiting for! Railcraft 9.6 is here!

For those of you who have updated Forge recently, this update should resolve all your issues involving Fluids. It also includes support for IFluidContainerItems!

This update will also see the much improved new Switch code fron ssotangkur. They should be more reliable than ever!

And of course there a whole host of other improvements and bugfixes. Not a huge amount of new features, but I got caught up in a slew of bugfixes. The bigger the mod gets, the more time I have to spend doing bugfixes instead of new features, sad day!

I want to remind everyone about the MineCon Milestone drive currently active on Patreon. Get to the $600 level before MineCon and I’ll add a feature from my “probably never happen” list. I’ll give you a couple new hints: Its a destination and a journey, and it involves worldgen. More hints to come later! So stay tuned to my twitter.
